Source code examples, screen shots, and descriptive text are provided at each step to reveal the application development process. Neil Peterson, CTO of the Open Design Alliance, commented, “We have always had a core group of clients who are primarily interested in reading and writing DWG data, but in recent years we have seen a strong push in the area of application development based on the ODA platform. Deelip’s book shines a strong light on this aspect of our software, demonstrating how an application developer can quickly and easily leverage ODA technology to create a powerful end-user application.” Deelip Menezes, author of the book, remarked, “The Open Design Alliance is probably one of the most important organizations in the CAD world. Unfortunately, it probably also is one of the most misunderstood. The technologies offered by the ODA go far beyond just reading and writing DWG files. Through this book I hope to increase awareness about the ODA and its technologies.” When asked about what a typical CAD software developer can expect from the book, Mr. Menezes, added, “The reader of the book starts with an empty Microsoft® Visual C++® project, and using just the ODA’s DWGdirect™ SDK, ends up with a professional DWG editor application, complete with command prompt and plug-in architecture. This goes to show the power of the ODA libraries and gives you an idea of what they can accomplish.” Mr. Menezes will be attending the ODA World Conference in Leiden, The Netherlands, April 27 – 29, 2009 and holding a book signing at that time.
